The Color Gray.
A note about a simple color. Gray. The color born from a blend of black and white. A color that is widely known as the middle ground. A safe space. A color of minimalism. Depending on the mood, gray has the potential to evoke a sense of sophistication, uncertainty, or elegance. A simple color that represents professionalism and neutrality. Gray can be serious, mysterious, melancholy, sad, and depressing.
When it comes to painting, I don’t reach for gray. Although it’s a color that can be paired nicely with many other colors, I tend to stay away from it because it reminds me of cold concrete.
My greatest intention when creating is for my art to breathe.
Gray is a standard color that has the ability to stifle energy. The only time gray may appear in my art is when it is revealed by a serendipitous blending between black and white. In this case, I am led to be reminded of the lessons that can be learned by lingering in the gray area for a moment. While not a favored choice in paint, gray carries significant symbolism associated with wisdom.
When trying to appease a general group, when trying to keep things simple, when trying to be a minimalist, when trying to be professional, when trying to remain elegant, when trying to be practical, when trying to compromise - go with gray.
