My First Epoxy Resin Project

I was too excited to read the instructions. Big Mistake!

I’ve been working with epoxy resin since 2018. My very first project was interesting. Here’s what happened…

I was scrolling through my favorite app, Pinterest, when I saw a beautiful abstract painting that made time pause. It was this mysterious gloss effect that shocked me. I became intrigued by the glass-like coating of the painting, and immediately began digging through the internet to learn what the artist had done to make it seem as if the painting was in a glass frame. Then, I found it. “Resin!” I did some more digging to not only learn where I could purchase this resin, but also, how much was I about to spend on it?! As it turns out, a whole lot. I went to Michael’s for what would have been my first purchase of many gallons to follow.

My first project was an abstract painting on a canvas that was 36” x 48”. I was excited for my first resin art project. Too excited. So excited that I did what most people do when they think they know it all - I disregarded the instructions. I measured the two parts accordingly, but missed the part where I was only supposed to mix as much as I needed to use, because unused mixed resin is not something you save for later. I just knew I’d be able to close the lid on the container I’d mixed it in until the next day, but the container started to heat up! When I say it got hot, it got HOT! I panicked, and quickly ran with the container outside of my apartment downstairs, and outside to discard the hazardous chemistry project that I thought was about to explode. It was scary! I threw it out and ran back upstairs to check on the resin that was drying on the painting I’d done. It seemed safe, and the next day I realized that I was fascinated with the outcome. Resin became a key component to my art creations. Since that day, I continued to practice on small canvases, using just as much resin as needed. No more waste. And over the years, that painting ignited a fire within me and sparked a passion for creating fluid art with epoxy resin. It’s transpired into a collection of paintings, and as you see on this site, a home decor business.

If you’re interested in learning more about epoxy, I highly recommend doing your research and checking out artresin.com. Prepare yourself as you invest a great deal of money into this very addictive artistic practice. Have fun, be safe, wear a mask and gloves, and get creative!
