“The flow of water and its calming properties bring a sense of peace into the home.”

Decorating our homes is like placing a filter on them. We curate our spaces according to how we want to see them.

Some people are extremely talented at imagining the decorative potential of empty or unfinished spaces. I am probably one to take the route of placing art on walls and positioning plants throughout my home for an indoor jungle vibe. That’s my filter - nature! I’m also keen on less being more.

I took a trip to the Galapagos Islands this summer, and every breathtaking view poured refreshing ideas into my mind about how I can continue to add pieces of nature to my space, aka more plants and more art - but I’m interested in experimenting with incorporating more textures and color combinations into my next creations.

I think we can all agree that shades of blue are beautiful and soothing. This is one of the reasons more and more people make decisions to add touches of “ocean-like” art to their living spaces. The flow of water and its calming properties bring a sense of peace into the home. One of the more popular styles of ocean art is created with resin. So, not only are the blends of blue providing a sense of serenity, but the glistening appeal of the resin creates a gloss effect that in fact takes on an imitation of water. Resin art is not only fun to collect, but it turns out to become an answer people land at when questioning their personal home decor style. People are investing in resin coasters. Resin serving trays. Resin magnets. Epoxy tables. Epoxy countertops. Epoxy floors. Epoxy art and resin art are trends, but I’d like to think all creativity is timeless. Resin is also fun to use for DIY craft projects. The number of tutorial videos that have surfaced all over the internet is inspiring, as they walk people through the artistic practice of designing resin coasters, serving trays, and more - step by step.

I’ve been practicing working with resin/epoxy for three years, and it’s completely transformed my creative process. The DMC Original Art three-piece panel wall painting below is one of my favorite customized nature-inspired epoxy creations. This piece now sits in someone’s home office serving as a backdrop for virtual meetings. My art process is meditative, and the flow of fluid art combined with epoxy is purely cathartic - which as a result has the potential to add on a sense of peace and calm in the homes of others.
