Goldman Sachs One Million Black Women: Black in Business

Your thoughts create your world, and it amazes me every time I see my thoughts come into fruition. I learned about this program in 2022 when it launched and imagined myself being part of it one day.

Just recently, I attended a 3-day in-person orientation for this FREE, yet competitive Goldman Sachs online business program - One Million Black Women: Black in Business.

I am honored to be 1 of 151 trailblazing Black women from all around the country selected from a pool of nearly 5,000 applicants. They have compared the chances of getting into this program as being more difficult than getting into Harvard. Wow.

The overarching One Million Black Women initiative is a 10 billion dollar investment addressing GS’s commitment to empowering Black women by providing necessary tools and resources to strengthen the growth of communities and businesses powered by Black women.

The Black in Business program, in particular, has partnered with the NYU Stern School of Business to provide and facilitate the program curriculum. I’m an honorary NYU business student! I’m beyond excited for DMC Original Art and ALL of the businesses run by my fellow cohort 5 members! We’re powering forward.

Thank you to everyone who advocates for and spearheads this initiative, including Jessica Taylor, Managing Director at Goldman Sachs, National Director of One Million Black Women and Melissa Bradley, Founder of 1863 Ventures, serial entrepreneur, investor, professor and researcher.

Orientation was held at the Goldman Sachs headquarters in NYC, and all expenses paid! 151 Black women gathered for what was a clear exemplification of what Black women deserve - Excellence. The accommodating team, ambiance, decor, food, program outline, curriculum, to the spaces we walked through were all reflections of their esteemed commitment to our success. We were all so delighted to see one another and the tables that were designed and built for us at the GS office as well as at the top floor of One World Trade Center where we gathered for a sunset dinner celebration. We toasted to our dedication of taking on an enterprising role from Founder to CEO - a path toward building generational wealth.

What is One Million Black Women: Black in Business?

“A powerful network for Black women entrepreneurs and strategic advisors to help guide business growth.”

I would like to give a special shout out to my Business Advisor Kathey Porter, nationally recognized small business strategist, award-winning supplier diversity expert, business author and entrepreneur; my fellow Buy from a Black Women business sistas in this cohort Yashika Walker, Founder of Hair Affair Growth Oil and Nubian Simmons, Founder of The Pink Bakery; fellow artist Melissa A Mitchell, Founder of Abeille Creations; members of my growth group; the entire Cohort 5, those that came before us and the ones to follow!

This work is bigger than me, bigger than DMC Original Art. I am my ancestors’ wildest dreams. And the best is yet to come.
