Orange, Light the Way

I’m going on a color journey. I’ll be studying the energy of colors, how they make me feel, and the reasons I use them in my creations.

The Color Orange.

I have a special appreciation for the color orange. Its potency gently reminds me that a little goes long, far, and wide. It’s the same as with the energy of the sun. The light of the sun reaches us from millions of miles away. We feel its warmth through the distance, and in its presence, we’re reminded that we too, are light.

Studies show that the color orange is connected to abundance, revitalization, well-being, sexuality, creativity, and increased mental energy. It’s fair to realize that too much of the color orange has the potential to trigger anxiety, and with that in mind it’s often better to digest the color orange in “bite-sized” experiences. Vitamin D is necessary in supporting and developing healthy physical bodies, but too much direct sunlight can also cause harm. With orange, we find our balance.

What I love most about the color orange is its pure zestfulness. It’s bright and cheerful, creating happiness and inspiring creativity. When I paint, I am intentional with where I blend in shades of orange. It’s unnecessary for me to infuse too much, it’s also undesirable. I prefer to use other colors heavily, while applying smaller drops of orange to create synergy and a natural flow. It’s ideal for me to position the color orange as a spark of light that we are drawn to, not blinded by.

One of my favorite places to experience the color orange is underwater while snorkeling. The schools of neon orange fish and pockets of orange found in a coral reef is absolutely mesmerizing.

I know three people who love the color orange. I get it. It’s a good one.
